Myoepithelial Lesions

Breast cancer is among the fifth most cause behind the deaths caused by cancer, just after lung cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer and stomach cancer. In the year 2005 only, 502,000 people died due to breast cancer. This huge number consists of around 7% of cancer deaths and at least 1% of any kind of deaths. Breast cancer is the deadliest disease that causes the maximum number of deaths among women. Breast cancer is the third most common disease in the United States, just after colon cancer and lung cancer. In 2007 alone this fatal disease has caused around 40,910 deaths. In 2007 at least 7% of cancer deaths have been caused by breast cancer and at least 2% of all the deaths by this disease. In that country alone breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women and the 2nd most common reason for all cancer death. Myoepithelial Lesions is among the most lethal forms of breast cancers.

Women in the United States have only a 1 in 8 life time’s chance of getting invasive form of breast cancer. Only 1 in 33 lifetime chance is there in which death can possibly come. Both incidence and death rate due to breast cancer have declined over the time. A study in the US conducted by the Society for Women’s Health research in 2005 has shown that breast cancer is the most feared disease in the country, especially for women. Myoepithelial Lesions is among the deadliest of the breast cancer forms.

Recently the number of breast cancer cases around the world has increased since 1970. Modern lifestyle of people is often blamed for the increase in breast cancer among women. Though the tissues inside the breast of both men and women are almost the same, breast cancer is usually found among women.

Heterogeneity has been found to be one of the causes of breast cancer. The primary form of breast cancer begins from the single cells that have lost their differentiation, regulation and proliferation. These impaired cells remain inside the very basement membrane of the lobule or the duct. There are four basic ways to classify breast cancer. Myoepithelial Lesions is a division made on the basis of Pathological divisions of breast cancer.

Pathology - the pathologist categorize each type of the tumors on the basis of histological appearance or on several other criteria. The commonest pathologic forms of breast cancer are invasive lobular carcinoma and invasive ductal carcinoma.

Grade of tumor – This is the histological grade to find out the intensity of the disease, that a pathologist does under a microscope.

Protein & gene expression status – Presently breast cancers can also be tested for the expression of an estrogen receptor or ER. Progesterone receptor or PR and also HER2 /neu proteins are also used in dividing the different types of breast cancer through this process.

Tumor – There are five different values like, Tis, T2, T1, T3 and T4 that are divided on the basis of absence or presence of different invasive cancer.
